I hate it when games overmoralize killing decisions when it's the most logical option within the given setting

So, this is an annoying trend that's been criticized on Twitter (or x, or whatever), but I hate when a game punishes you, or has the characters critique you, for killing under very understandable circumstances.
I was recently playing Plague Tales, and a character criticizes a girl for killing a man/enemy npc, while they are being chased down by an army of murderers. Very basic premise.
However, how is this even logical? This is the middle ages, a plague is happening (no fucking spoiler there, it's in the title of the game). There are more than 100 guys who are willing to murder you any second, and you're supposed to be the bigger person? No one in such times would even think it's that strange to murder a person during a civil crisis or war - it's an entirely modern understanding of morals pushed onto a game in a different setting.
Plague Tales isn't bad, but there are games who set up situations where it's 100% reasonable to commit murder, and then they give you a bad ending for it.
It's such lame game design, it's lazy.
What do you people think about this?

My one pet peeve.
It's becoming less popular. BG3 let's you be a murder hobo without punishment. Dark Urge is all about it.
As a gaming mechanic it makes sense to punish senseless killing. Lazy game design is punishing all killing.

Thank god. Is Dnd even dnd if you can't murder hobo as a valid option?
In video games, it's not that bringing up the question of morality is a bad thing, but setting things up like:
"You're getting stalked, murdered, robber: but if you attack them back, YOU are the bad person" Tf
Turn the other cheek mentality up to a lobotomy

Thats why i like Rouge Trader. People actually judge you for not killing everything that breathes. How dare you not listen to our lord and Saviour the Emperor of mankind??

I mean, not killing in Warhammer is like refusing to breathe.
Is there even a canonical pacifist in WH that didn't get straight-up murdered?

Is Rogue Trader a good introduction into Warhammer? I've always wanted to get into 40k Warhammer but I have no idea where I'd start.Yorveth wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 6:54 pm Thats why i like Rouge Trader. I think its not bad, as they do explain a lot of things, and you dont have to be an expert. However i think that it might be a bit to broad of an entery as there are many things mentioned inside (again if you like to have a lot of information upfront its great) but if you prefer a bit slower approach i would actually reccomend the first Space Marine game, as its a bit older (and quite often on sale on Steam or if you Pirate free always [i dont judge RRRRRRR fellow pirate}) and its a bit more grounded as it shows you only a bit of the world.Annoging wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 6:57 pmIs Rogue Trader a good introduction into Warhammer?
