Giga sad react. I am in the same boat i would like to play but usually people hit me with random excuses such as, i cant think of a plot, i cant imagine having the responsibility, its just not for me i can play and my personal favourite "what do you mean i have to let you make a desicion on your own? Then whats the point of me creating a story when you can derail it? If i am to write a story then you have to do what i want you to do."
My brain inserted Warforged before artificer idk why, and i was like NOICE a halfbreed of a robot and a hamadryad, but alas i actually read the post and realized its that just you get there through the plot not at the start.
As usual i like to play a retard that has very niche bizzare powers that none might take seriously but in certain cases they cant be beat. Usually require some outside of the box creative thinking or stunning mentaly your opponents as they dont believe you can possible think that would work. But i am usually interested in fitting my character into the setting as they offer a unique insight into the Dms mind. I also like to hoard those nieche abilities and items and catch them all (AT ANY MORAL COST)
I see I see.
Theoretically, it's all about where the forging starts. So, an artificer is the one who usually creates them.
A hamadryad in a cyberpunk setting would be very cruel? Imagine a creature like that embracing the flows and surviving instead of rotting to her core.
I cannot think of anything more opposite to a hamadryad than some hypercapitalistic cybperunk setting. A cyberpsycho hamadryad?
Are they a homebrew race in 5e?
We're mixing up games and editions here, but hamadryads were a playable race in 4e. In 5e I've mostly seen attempts to homebrew it like
here.

What type of PC are you in the mood for playing that you aren't currently?
I'm usually the DM of everything I play (sad reacts only) but, at the moment, I'm really in the mood for playing:
A hamadryad artificer. They're essentially opposite concepts, but imagine a hamadryad trying to evolve herself through steampunk machinery. leading to her becoming a monstrosity towards the end of the campaign?

yea that really is out of place. But it makes me wonder would they somehow evolve to some neon hamadryad going to a rave? we we will never know until you play it and let us know.

In classical terms, the hamadryad would certainly die using technology to this extent because they're harmed by "nature dying"?
Some person made a long fucking vid about this.
Here
Also, what artificers are, and what they *use* depends on each setting. Eberron is its own thing.
A hamadryad should theoretically be "allergic" to cybernetics, but trying to find a ~solution~ for this would be very interesting. Using "green" tech?
No I am imagining a bunch of hamadryads pushing for EcOlOgIcAl solutions and saving a cyberpunk dystopia

LMAO an EcO RaVe !!!!!
I Watched all of his videos, yea he does explain it really well. By clasic settings they would most certanly die but i never liked clasic settings so to the trash with them

jk jk
Realistically i like to explore this questions with the dm and see their take as its always easy to say yea GG they gone, but i like seeing each individuals take on this as it can be indication on the nature vs science and how one goes around (or through the other one)
Personally i would love to see some form of green tech, or the driad slowly slowly being corrupted by the progressive and very invasive tehnology but clinging to life as "nature always finds a way" type of thing and to see at the end of the campaign was it worth it to change as much and survive, would they have rather died or what else one might find at the end of that journey.

I agree that it 100% depends on the setting.
If artifice can be interpreted as "magical technology" in some settings, there is no reason nature couldn't develop its own version of "technology". You see this in various works with elves, known haters of modernity. Old elven settlements would often seem more advanced than whatever humans and dwarves are creating. They allude to advanced technology, but it's implied it's not the same type of engineering.
I mean, a lot of settings can't even agree what dwarves use in steampunk. Dwarves can't use magic, but they may practice artifice? But 4e mentions artifice is arcane.
I can already imagine quest ideas. There are various nature spirits that could theoretically transform tech into something more magical.
Here, for my PC specifically, I was imagining a hamadryad slowly killing herself, but not being able to resist the appeal of the machine

Remember that in 4e you had Runepriest as a class (with a picture of a dwarf crafting a rune) and if i recall right they were classified as a Psionic or Divine class. Usually they let dwarves use magic like through gods not direct magic when they dont let them use magic

If you read their abilities you will come to the conclusion that they didnt know either.
