It's a great movie, but I was still uncomfortable with the pron bait, keeping in mind that the movie is still high quality.
It's about class struggle and I think it would have worked better as a tv series considering I wanted to get to know Anora better

I think Anora is a great movie but you shouldn't take it at face value.
The oversexualized pieces are there to sell you on the "glamor" of sex work. If you're conservative and this isn't for you, that's fine, it isn't for me either - but there is a lot, and I mean a damn gargantuan movement in younger gens, trying to paint an empowering picture of sex work. Whether this is real or not is another thing. It's essentially a Cinderella story but in the reverse. The director said that Annie was "a modern princess" or whatever
Anora at the end of the movie is "the real Anora". Throughout the movie she's projecting a false image of herself - sex is her only currency, and when someone like Igor looks at the real her, she feels defensive.
That kid Vanya is the enemy she's used to, and for people who've dealt with shit, mistakingly believing someone's kindness is worse than dealing with evil you can predict. Like Dolorisa said, it's a movie about class struggle.
To Vanya she's just a random adventure, but he affected and shook her sense of worth to her core. She wanted out of her misery, yet to him she was barely a human being, more like a toy.
Igor sees this, and he relates to her.

One thing about Anora is that women prefer it to men, which isn't expected since it's a pornographic movie.Peril wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 6:10 pm I think Anora is a great movie but you shouldn't take it at face value.
